I had mine done about a month ago, didn't hurt much at all getting it done. Had to eat liquids for a few days after(soup etc) and drink plenty of water to help keep it clean. And of course it swells a bit, so talking for a few days can be a bit awkward.
Overall I'd say it's more annoying due to the swelling than painful. Though I do know someone who found it very painful, I suppose it depends on your own pain threshold.

- It doesn't hurt having it pierced, the real pain is the aching afterwards.
The procedure will be similar to this: your mouth will be cleaned with mouthwash and a clamp will be put on it.
Then the needle will go in from the bottom of your tongue up and the bar will be put down the middle of the hollow needle. The ball will now be screwed on and you can rinse your mouth out.
The bar will be extra long to allow for your tongue to swell, after a few weeks you should go back there and get the bar changed for a smaller one.
The problems you might face are: chipped teeth, developing a lisp and possible infection.
You can get clear bars for when your at work that hides it, but these can be only be used with healed piercings (as plastic can harbour bacteria).

- Hiya,i've got mine done twice so i have two bars in and it doesn't hurt it's really quick,if it's a good piercer they ask you to sit down clamp tongue and take in a very deep breath in while they put the needle through. After it can ache but take paracetamol ibuprofen and remember to gargle and swill often with boiled salt water so you don't get an infection,my first one didn't swell at all but the second one did a bit but all in all the experience was wicked and that was 3yrs ago i still have both my tongue piercings and i love them!! I have a job and it never stopped me getting it,good luck whatever you decide you'll be fine :-)
- It doesn't hurt to have it done, but it really takes some getting used to (eating and talking). It can very easily become infected too and that hurts like hell. Once you're used to it no-one will be able to tell its there unless you choose to show it to them. It's easy to be discrete and keep it hidden if you think it will be a problem.
- I had mine done a while ago and the actual piercing didn't hurt too bad, but afterwards it was real sore. It was kinda tough to eat for a few days, which sucked because I love food! After that I had absolutely no problems with it. I took it out for nursing school but I'll probably get it redone in the future!
- there are allot of problems with getting your tougue pireced you have to have perfect dental hygene, there has been people that has layed down and there tougue has swelled to the point of suffication,it has to be kept clean, and yes it's not that cute when looking for a job.not everybody's into it.
- in all honesty, it does not hurt at all. The only thing u should feel is the clamp that they use to hold your tongue out and still. Takes only seconds. Keep your mouth clean, drink water and low acid food to prevent irritation.

I went on a website called bmezine and read loads of stories about other peoples tongue piercing experiences as well to calm my nerves ! - It really, really hurts. My friend fainted and they had to stop.
