Is size eight to big to be a sucessful model?
I am thirteen and I would love to be a model and I have been told by a lot of people that I should when I am older pursue this as a career as I would be a very good model. Its just that I don't feel comfortable being a size eight and although I have curves in all the right places (An effect of my bulky bone structure) I look at the practically anorexic size four models and think I will never make it. I am 5 ft 7, pretty and fair but there are a lot of girls at school that are way thinner and although very petite, I envy them. Is size eight to big to be a modelling success?

Firstly, I think the most common model size is either an 8/10. A lot of agencies will choose models of the same size, as it's easier to order all of the clothes in one size - rather than faffing around with 6s and 14s or w/e. Plus models look "bigger" on telly anyway, so they need to be smaller in clothes size.
Secondly, I think you sound like a pretty intelligent girl. Sure modelling could be a great career for you, but why not have it as a hobby instead? You should focus on something other than modelling, as it's terrible what some young girls have to go through. And please don't even think about dropping a size. To be an 8 at 5ft 7 means you are already naturally slim - I'm 5ft 5 and a size 12, oh dear :')
Just carry on enjoying your life. Don't feel envious of other girls, because God made you your own special self. I'm sure many other girls would love to be as slim as you.
Good luck with your future career - w/e it may be :P xox

- No-one likes an anorexic person, and everyone i know think the anorexic models look horrible ..... curvy is defiantly more sexy and there and MANY curvy models, being anorexic isn't a requirement to be a successful model, successful models are all different sizes, its all about the attitude and the talent, NOT the skinniness. Size 8 is a very healthy size, any lower and you'll look ill ..... the ill look is very unattractive!
- its not the looks about how pretty you that can make you a model it is the structure of you body that could make you become a model... do you think you can do great poses? do you think you can handle the criticism you will get, and the jealousy of the other girls? if you can deal with that then you can try, but like i said structure is what they look for... if you want to be a high fashion model on the runway i think you have to be at least 5"10, high cheekbones, shoulders that are the same size as your hips, waist has to be small, bust has to be small, hips have to be something like 34"... what type of model do you want to be, a size eight might be alright but any higher and i don't think you could be... don't develop an eating disorder just for modelling... and last but not least, show us picture!
- Sure, why not? If you have the determination to, you might just make it. Look at Crystal Renn, she is a size 12 and one of the most successful models in the world.
- yea
you could either drop a good bit of weight and you'll be good
or gain a good bit and go for plus size
Im not sorry to say, you sound like a healthy normal..model thin just cant be healthy - Most models are a 0 or 2.
This is a problem, because they don't represent the majority of women. By the way, there is nothing wrong with being an 8. Congratulations on being a normal girl.
If only we could get the fashion industry to concentrate on glorifying normal women instead of waisted waifs and stick figures (give that girl a sammich!) then girls might not have so many body image issues.
Do yourself a favor and pursue a career that shows women can be smart, intelligent and creative, rather than a sex object. Be a biologist, computer scientist, or mathematician. You are probably a very intelligent girl, and you are in danger of falling into the trap of a career that treats women as objects and not people, by going the model direction.
Are you a smart girl, or a bimbo? Do you have a brain in that head, or are you just a pair of boobs? (I hope that made you angry. It should.)
What you probably don't realize is that you *can* be an engineer or a scientist. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. My cousin got her masters degree in Aero-Astro and she got to drive the Mars Rover at JPL. Women can and DO succeed in science. You can succeed if you just tell yourself that you can.Source(s):
- Take it from an 18 year old high school graduate male...
don't envy those girls or the models you see on TV. I don't mean to sound like a mom or anything but you're still so young and you have to understand that what you see...as in other girls...that's all fake.
People too often mistake THAT as true beauty. That's just not true. Beauty is not how thin you are or how large your chest is or the dresses you wear or hair styles you have. Beauty is individuality, confidence, and character. Maybe later in life you'll realize that.
Don't envy people like that :\
To answer your question, it shouldn't matter. I suggest not taking the path of modeling. It's far too fake and doesn't express what true beauty is. That's just what I think =]
